A Power Statement is a self-advocacy tool for people who use psychiatric medicine. It works by connecting the doctor’s medication treatment plan - the right medicine at the right dose - to your wellness and recovery goals.
With the Power Statement Toolkit, doctors, nurses, peer staff, case managers, therapists and direct service workers learn to focus on the individual's goals and to use Power Statements to guide treatment plans.

How it's used
Partners - such as: health plans and managed care organizations; federal, state and county mental health authorities; multi-state, multi-service provider networks and health homes; and peer-run organizations - sponsor its use to increase engagement and self-advocacy; direct service staff use it to support client involvement in treatment.
Teams - such as: a single provider site or program, a peer-run center, or an academic program - use it to train new employees, run billable groups, and to teach others how to carefully craft Power Statements so that the entire clinical care team understands individuals’ goals for treatment; academia uses it to introduce the next generation of providers to recovery.
Individuals, their families and friends, and their support networks use it to increase knowledge about self and recovery, and to learn how to self-advocate and develop Power Statements with prescribers, therapists, outside medical providers, family members, friends, and others.
